Whether you are a pilot who flies aerobatics for fun or a serious competitor, GyroFX will help to improve your flying. Simply load the data from a Flight Recorder into GyroFX and it will display your flight in a 3D viewer. You can then watch your aerobatic sequences and view analytical information to help you boost your performance.
GyroFX now allows you to create and manage Formation flights. Flight path data from multiple aircraft can be entered into the system and displayed in the 3D Viewer.
A smoke trail can be turned on for each aircraft and the smoke colour can be set independently. New functionality allows you to change the colour of each aircraft. The 3D Viewer allows you to see the relative positions of each aircraft in the formation and to see how well you maintained your position during the flight. You can also see how the formation as a whole performed during the flight.
This is an exciting new feature and a great training aid for Formation pilots and coaches.
A video showing the Formation Flight functionality can be found on the GyroFX YouTube channel:
GyroFX has launched a YouTube channel which contains a Playlist of very useful tutorial videos covering the main features of the GyroFX Aerobatic Flight Analysis System.
GyroFX has launched a new feature that allows users to share a flight or part of a flight and to have a conversation about the Shared Flight.
With a few clicks of a mouse, a link is created which can be automatically sent by email to one or more people. Any recipient of the email simply clicks on a link which launches GyroFX and displays the flight in the 3D-Viewer. Alternatively, the link can be copied and pasted into any of the Social Media messaging platforms such as Whatsapp.
Anyone who views the Shared Flight can also view all the comments associated with the flight and add their own comments to continue the conversation. GyroFX automatically sends notifications out to the participants of the conversation.
To make the sharing process easier, GyroFX users can now create Groups in a similar way to WhatsApp. Typical groups could be a flying school; a peer group of like-minded aerobatic pilots or just friends.
Because GyroFX is “mobile-friendly”, shared flights (or partial flights) can be viewed and comments added from a mobile phone, anywhere, any time. It's a great way to quickly share that special manoeuvre with your friends or your Aerobatic Coach.
In a close-run competition, Andy McKee won the British National Intermediate Championships in September 2024. The British weather wasn’t kind and there was only one day out of three suitable for flying, so the competition was decided over only two rounds.
Competing in his Silence Twister, Andy scored 74% in the first round, taking the lead with a slim margin of 0.4%. The second round was another close run affair, but with a score of 75.6%, Andy held onto his lead, winning the competition with a very slender margin of only 0.07%
Andy’s self-built Twister has a small UL Power engine rated at only 107hp, so his win against the more powerful One Design, Cap 232 and Extra 300s was even more remarkable. GyroFX has been a key part of Andy’s training schedule since the beginning of the season:
"Competing in a low powered aircraft means energy management is crucial. I found GyroFX’s 3D viewer and stats data to be very helpful in my training to get the most out of the performance I have. The ability to view a manoeuvre from any angle and in slow motion allowed me to spot errors in shape and entry speeds.
Positioning is another area where I was able to improve my flying. GyroFX automatically draws an aerobatic box around the sequence enabling me to easily see positioning and wind drift errors.
Analysis and improvement on the ground using GyroFX is a whole lot cheaper than burning fuel and trying to figure it out in the air."
Matthias Jeserich won an outstanding Silver medal at the Open German National Championship at Welzow in June 2024. Competing against a field of nine competitors at Intermediate level, Matthias scored an average of 73.3% over the three rounds. This was his first competition and a fantastic result.
He was leading the field after the first round with an impressive score of 77.2% in the known sequence. Unfortunately, on the second flight, Matthias was judged with two Hard Zeros for doing two incorrect rolls. This pushed him back to second place. His third flight was another great score of 75.4%, winning the round, but not enough to regain first place.
Matthias started to use the GyroFX system in March 2024 when he took delivery of a new Extra NG. With only four months of experience at aerobatics, GyroFX has proved to be a great training aid, helping him win the silver medal.
"The GyroFX system was extremely useful during my training for the Nationals. A coach cannot always be present on the ground during solo training flights. The GyroFX system allowed me to compare my own subjective impression with objective data thus recognising and being able to correct errors. The 3D viewer allowed me to observe the flight from all perspectives.
As a beginner, the basics had to be learned and improved first. For example, changes in direction after rolls are very clearly visible, regardless of whether they are 45 degree lines, aileron rolls or flick rolls. Later, I also paid attention to wind influences and corrections. I believe that the system will help me improve my skills for a long time."

Yes, you will need a Flight Recorder capable of providing accurate position, attitude and velocity data.
GyroFX have developed a range of low cost flight recorders, which start at only £149. These are available from our Shop. The flight recorder comes with two GO Pro swivel fittings and self adhesive mounts to attach to your aircraft. Stick them on the top of your instrument panel and you're ready to go.
Alternatively, we have published the design of our flight recorders, so you can build your own. The documentation can be downloaded for free. If you already own a Flight Recorder, then Contact Us to discuss importing its data into GyroFX.
Yes they work inverted, but the loss of the GPS signal when inverted is a challenge. The GyroFX flight recorder uses sophisticated sensor fusion and Kalman filter technology to predict the flight path from various sensors. However, there can be an occasional vertical 'Correction Step' in the flight path when the GPS signal is re-acquired. This can be a little irritating when trying to create the perfect video, but it rarely affects the analysis of your flight manoeuvres. Pay careful attention to the installation instructions for the best performance.
The results obtained from our low-cost flight recorder are impressive. This is a ground-to-air video of a 1-1/2 turn spin compared to an animation of the same manoeuvre in GyroFX. You can see details such as the pitch attitude flattening out after 1 turn and the error of the negative downline.
Absolutely. Being able to analyse exactly what happened on an Upset Recovery in slow motion is so useful. The trainee can take away video of his training manouvres.
